It is no secret that one of the most significant benefits of living in the San Francisco Bay Area is our access to nature. In previous blog posts, I have detailed my birding, hiking, and golf passions. While three of my top outdoor activities, they are certainly not the only accessible nature-related activities. Today was an exceptionally beautiful day - clear, sunny with a high of 63F. It was nice to see families off of work for President's Day, and out in the parks and recreational areas including the Golden Gate Gate National Recreation Area.
I spent the morning birdwatching at Fort Baker where there have been confirmed reports of a rare Western Tattler that I was not able to find. The parking lot for the Bay Area Discovery Museum was completely full when I left the area around 10:30 am. I drove to the Marin Headlands and hiked down to Bonita Cove for lunch on Black Sands Beach. Then I hiked up to Point Bonita Lighthouse, and down to Rodeo Beach Lagoon.
Several of my favorite annual outdoor events are right around the corner. It's a great time to get them on your calendar and sign up! Here is a list of not-to-miss birding and wildlife festivals, home and garden shows, and outdoor volunteer activities that your entire family will enjoy.
